problems with systray

When I right click icons in the systray, especially the leftmost one
I'm getting 2 menus, one for the icon I clicked and another which is
the menu that you normally get when you right-click the taskbar. Very
annoying. Any idea how to stop it from occurring? Thanks

It seems that whenever you are only using the taskbar at a size of one
line, you seem to get this issue. Expand the taskbar and the System
Tray should also get more space.

I removed that Windows Desktop Search thingy from my taskbar and now
it behaves properly.

In XP it is called the Notification Area.)

Seems as though you are needing a bit more space.

More info: Troubleshooting the Notification Area
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_n.htm#na

Per Google:
xp notification area - approx 360,000 hits
xp system tray - approx 1,920,000 hits

It appears not to "notify" as much as it contains items related to the
"system". ;-)

Even MS isn't afraid to use it:

Taskbar->Tray? I've never had anyone confuse the two. If MS uses the
term (referring to XP), and the program to display that area is called
systray.exe, I have no problem calling it the System Tray. It exists in
XP also, not only in Win95 as stated.

No, look at the link I gave to the ms kb.

The link you gave stated that systray.exe was in Win95 without
acknowledging its existence in newer versions.

Interesting blog, Bob. I enjoy reading from R. Chen (creator of TweakUI).

Terry, back in W95 there wasn't even a taskbar.

??? Don't you remember the Stones singing, "Start me up"? That was the
promo for Win95 with the Start button, hence the birth of the taskbar.

No the point was that the "official name" is from the core group that
created it, and it is misnamed very frequently(even in MS groups)

Then maybe that "core group" should have named the executable
"ntray.exe" instead. THEY'RE the ones who screwed up! ;-)
