Problems with System Restore

System Restore wont work on my system.
When I go to my computer/system properties
and click on the restore Tab, the following happens.

"Run a dll as an app has encountered a problem and needs to close"

and

"AppName: rundll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName: srrstr.dll
ModVer 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 000099b2"

it then as problems closing "DrWatsons" what ever that is.

I dont know what size SR is set at and I cant turn it on or off because of
the above.

all security is in place: firewall,virus killer,adware etc. and the system
has been defraged.

HD= 80Gig Memory=1Gig

I would be gratefull for any assistance
