After the windows xp start-up screen, Windows starts to run a disk check (as
it has detected a problem). The screen says that it is doing a file system
check on c: and that the file system is FAT 32.The disk check takes a couple
of minutes then confirms that no problems have been found. It then does a
restart automatically but appears to detect a problem then repeats the disk
check. This goes on indefinitely. How can I solve this?

Do you have an HP Scanjet 5100C scanner? If so then disconnect the
scanner before booting the computer. Then get the updated drivers
from HP, install them, and reconnect the scanner.

Good luck
