Problems with sound...

Hi,

I have a computer with two partitions on it. I have Windows XP Professional
SP2 installed on both the partitions. I use one partition for home use and
the other to work from home with work software.

I have the Sound Blaster Audigy card with Altec Lansing speakers.

Suddenly (I cant recall since when exactly) the sounds have stopped working
in my home partition (WMP10 doesnt emit any sounds when played, sound themes
dont work etc). I checked the speaker/microphone cables and they were all
correctly plugged in (infact, the microphone works in the Audio Tuning
Wizard, though Test Speakers doesnt work).

However, when I log onto the work partition, everything works just fine!
That tells me that there is no problem with the hardware and the plugs and
the connections.

I compared the Device Manager entries in both the partitions and there was
nothing unusual (no yellow ? icons) and infact, they were both identical (as
they should be).

On the partition I am having problems, the volume control is not set to mute
and I checked a few other silly things as well.

But none of them seem to be helping me. I went through all the pages
relating to Sounds in the control panel and couldnt fix the problem.

Anyone has any ideas what is happening here? This was a partition that was
working fine till recently.

Help much appreciated.

Thanks.

Verify the sounds are not turned off.
Go to control panel and open the sounds icon and verify sounds are enabled.
