Problems with sound in wmp when playing dvd

Hi there

Having problems with sound! None when playing dvd only music works. No sound
when receiving emails or when shutting down and restarting computer.

I have removed and reinstalled. WMP. REALTEK. AND K LITE CODEC PACK.
I have done a registry clean and still nothing is fixing it.
I have also tried a system restore and thats not working either. (not having
much luck am i) I have tried several dates and it tells me everytime that it
is incomplete! Arrggghhh!

I am at the end of my tether!!

Please help meeeee!!!

Realtek AC'97 Audio
Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device

Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)

DxDiag Notes

DirectX Files Tab: No problems found.
Display Tab 1: No problems found.
Sound Tab 1: DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3
(DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because
DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by
another caller.)
Sound Tab 2: DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3
(DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because
DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by
another caller.)
Music Tab: DirectMusic test results: All tests were successful.
Input Tab: No problems found.
Network Tab: No problems found.

rootkit, virus, or malware.

Thanks BillW50! Do you have any remedies?

Well running MSCONFIG and killing off all Start up programs would be the
first thing to try. Or run it in Safe Mode and see if the sound card now
works.
