Problems with Outlook 2003

I am having a few problems with Outlook 2003. I work at a university and am
using an IMAP account, NOT an Exchange account. The first problem is that
Outlook likes to keep going to the offline mode. This has been going on for
quite some time and I have no idea why it does this. I've done research and
most of the solutions involve disabling caching in an Exchange environment.
However, as I said, I'm NOT using Exchange.

The second problem is that I sometimes get this message:

"Operation timed out. Waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server."

The third thing that is happening is I get the following message:

"Commiting changes to local cache." This takes about five minutes. I'm
thinking that uninstalling and reinstalling the program will not fix the
problem. I'd appreciate it if anyone would please shed some light on this.
Thank you very much.

How big is the PST file for your IMAP account? Reason I ask is that Outlook
2003 will be limited to a < 2GB PST file in regards to an IMAP account.

The other thing you could try is running the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe)
against your PST file(s) to ensure there is no corruption.

PS - If you haven't done this already, make sure you exclude PST files from
real-time antivirus scanning.
