Problems with ocget.dll...Please Help

Hi,

I have been trying to download an activex control of a tool, which basically
depicts details in pictorial representation.

When I searched in the microsft support I did find some information at this
link <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323207>,
however this specifies that the problem is with IE 5.5 SP2, however I find
the issue to be existant on IE 6.0 as well. I have also seen that the tool I
am using does use "Post" method request. When I tried the work around given
in the above said link, the activex works perfectly fine. I understand that
this is a problem because of ocget.dll

Is this issue fixed with IE 6.0 or is still existant?
Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Krishna

The KB article is very interesting, thank you, but you have not given us any
information about precise error messages and symptoms that *you* experience.
I have been doing this for long enough to know that I should not assume that
a particular KB is the correct one for a particular problem.

Hi Sandi,

Thanks a lot for the reply. I really appreciate that. Ok as I was telling
the thing is that there is this graph in the tool which runs on an activex
control. When I navigate to this particular page the activex control does not
pop up. I did the following changes in the Tools-> Internet Options ->
Internet /Local Intranet...

1. Have set download unsigned activex control to prompt
2. Have set download signed activex control to prompt
3. Enable Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
4. Enable Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting
5. Enable Active scripting
6. Allow stored and per-session cookies

At first I did contact the support team of the tool, I am using and asked
them about the problem. They gave me the KB and Once I deleted the entry in
the registry, given in the workaround, I can see the activex control box
popping up and then can view the graph. The problem is, this is seen
everytime the OS or box is new. The tool is installed on a different machine
and the box on which the problem is seen is a remote machine. The tool is
accessed using IE and by giving a port number.

Hope this clarifies some of the stuff you asked for. Thanks a lot again for
your help sandi. Any more information will be really helpful and appreciated.

Please let me know if I can provide more information on this for you to help
me.

Thanks,
Krishna

KB number please. I suspect that the site in question is going to have to
modify the way they do things, but without the KB, and informatino about
whatever it is that you have changed, I cannot be precise.

Hi Sandi,

I really dont know which KB number you are referring and what KB stands
for...Can you please explain that...However this is the KB number which I
referred to and had posted the link before. KB323207

Hope this is what you are looking for, do let me know if I need to provide
something more.

Sorry for all the trouble, but I surely need some help here. I really
appreciate your patience and help.

Thanks,
Krishna

I am not at all certain that this problem is fixed in IE6 or later; if
anything, the downloading of controls has been tightened even further.

If this problem is affecting multiple machines in a corporate environment,
then IEAK should be in use and a customised verison of IE including the
workaround should be rolled out.

HI Sandi,

Thanks again for your quick response, I really appreciate that.

Yes this has been seen on multiple systems in a corporate environment,
however the work around works perfectly fine for us.

The other question I have right now is...

How safe is the work around? If I delete the registry entry would this lead
to any other issues.

Kindly clarify this. I appreciate your time and effort in this.

Thanks again,
Krishna

Hi Krishna,

I'm afraid I can't answer that question for certain one way or the other.
Its not something I can claim any expertise in.

Hi Sandi,

I really appreciate your position and frankness. Thanks a lot for answeing
my questions and it helped me a lot.

However the work around seems to be working fine and does not have any
impacts on any other modules as of now, if there is will bug you again I
guess :).

Thanks a lot again. I would be happy to fill up a feedback form or anything
on the same lines for your help. Please let me know.

Regs,
Krishna
