Problems with my DVD's autorun, please help

B

Bob Brown

It's a NEC ND3550A DVD Burner

When I insert a disk into the drive, the thing will not autorun for at
least 20-30 seconds. A friend of mine says that his will start almost
immediately??

I have had dvd drives in the past which started much faster than 30
seconds..It also spins down when copying to/from and then spins back
up. It has a pausing about it.

How can I improve/speed up the autorun?
BTW, The drive is 3 months old.

Here are my computer stats
Windows XP Home Edition [SP2] 5.1.2600
Motherboard= Asus A8S-X
BIOS DATE: 08/26/05 VER: 08.00.10
Chipset SiS 756, AMD Hammer

Can someone help me out?

I had this problem on an NEC DVD-RW before. There are a couple of
things you can do about it. First, I would flash it with the latest
firmware. If that does not work, I would put the drive on an IDE chain
by itself to see if the problem goes away.

Latest Firmware Download:

I would read up on flashing the firmware if you are not familiar with
it. Done improperly, it could damage your drive.
