Problems with movie maker getting worse

I have Xp and when I first got my computer the movie maker worked just fine.
Now no matter what I do I can't get it to work.

Files I used before don't work now, the audio plays but the video stays on
the same frame.
I use movie maker & animation shop to make gifs/banners and can't move frame
by frame to get pictures, again it stays on the same frame.

I also use it to make amv's and I can't get it to create clips much less use
transitions or effects. It freezes, lags or closes all the time.

I load a new file, it takes, then I click to play, it crashes then when I
open it again the file I just loaded is gone and I have to load it again.

please help, I have checked all my files both audio and video, all are
compatable. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled movie maker. nothing
works!

Some WinXP users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.
