Problems with master boot record and partition table

I have a Gateway P4 1.8G Processor with 256 meg Ram and an 80 G Hard drive.

Windows stops abruptly occasionally indicating the new 80G Western digital
hard drive has problems and to shut off caching and windowing.

The Master Boot record has a virus in it, that I cannot remove with several
virus programs.

The partition table is messed up by installing several Linux distributions
with Lilo and grub partitioning software, so the extended partition table
"magic number" is off.

I am interested in purchasing a router that will hook up SBC Yahoo DSL to my
NIC card, allowing me to use DSL from Linux.

Does anyone have any comments on this issues.
