problems with loading web pages

I am having problems with web pages opening. The page
opens quick enough, the page says 'done' and the green
slide bar goes completely across, then it locks and
remains like this for up to 3 mins. I have a new compaq
computer with winXP and prior to this happening pages
were opening within seconds. I have tried antivirus,
deleteing files, just about everything I can think of,
any further suggestions would be very appreciated as this
is driving me crazy!!
 
The web site could be trying to post a cookie (cookies) that
your system will not allow so the final part hangs.

After three minutes it just times out.
