Problems with live preview of custom theme title slide

P

pjm

I am having problems with the live preview of my custom theme title slides.
The secondary slides preview perfectly, but the preview of the tltle slides
change randomly between my 8 custom themes. The hover name is correct, but
the preview is not. Has anyone else experienced this? And does anyone have a
solution?

E

Echo S

Odd. I've had RedXs (when I go to File | Open or in a Windows window)
instead of the preview -- quite often, in fact -- but I've never had the
wrong preview thumbnail.

Is this on the Home tab when you go to New Slide or to Layout, or is it when
you're looking at them in a Windows window or when you go to File | Open or
what?

Only showing Custom Themes on the Design tab (I have developed 8 custom
themes where the only difference between them is the color)

I've been playing with this for hours and have found, intereresting enough,
that the preview (On screen- Live preview, on the actual title slide) works
perfectly before a theme is chosen. In other words, as I hover over each
custom theme thumbnails (8 different colors) on the theme nav bar at top, the
title slide changes to match the thumbnail. Once a custom theme is chosen, if
you change your mind and want to look at a different theme (in this case,
color), the On screen live preview, on the actual title slide does not change
to reflect the color, but randomly one of the other custom schemes (again, in
this case, color). The thumb nail and the name of the theme are correct and
will change to the new color if you choose that theme. It is simply in the
Live preview that it does not. Also, as mentioned in my first comment, this
is NOT true for the secondary slides, the live preview for them works
perfectly even after choosing one of the themes. Excuse the rambling, but
this is really driving me nuts! Can you think of a reason the live preview
would work seamlessly for the secondary slides, but NOT the tiltle slides?

I feel like there's a word missing here somewhere that's keeping me from
understanding exactly what's going on. I get that you've got a Title Slide
selected. And I get that you've selected a custom theme and that you're
moving your mouse over other themes in the Themes Gallery on the Design tab,
but I'm not sure what exactly is happening when you do that. (Sorry. I'm
trying not to be dense, but it's just not happenin' today!)

Anyway, did you make changes to the title slide layout in Master View? Like
maybe add another placeholder to it? I've found that to cause odd issues,
but I'd have to do some specific testing to be able to pinpoint it.

P

pjm

Let me try to clarify. I have a new blank presentation open. I can't decide
which of my 8 custom themes (colors) to choose for the whole presentation, so
I hover over each of the thumbnails trying to decide. The live preview on
screen shows me perfectly each of the 8 colors for my title slide. I think I
like Blue, so I choose it. Later I decide I want to change the color (theme)
to Red, but want to see how the tiltle slide will look in Red. With my title
sllide selected and hovering over the Red thumbnail, the Live preview shows
me the GREEN tiltle slide (or randomly any of the other 8 custom
theme-colors) NOT Red. If I do the same for a secondary slide, the live
preview does show Red or any other of the custom themes as I hover over each.

Thanks. That's kind of what I thought you were going to say.

Your title slide layout is attached to the same slide master as the rest of
your slides, right?

For what it's worth, I saw the same thing happen here just now, but of
course I can see the whole slide design change because I don't have a series
of similar themes with only color scheme differences. Actually, I just saw
it again -- this time I got the background from one theme and the color
scheme from the theme I'm hovering over.

I don't see this behavior frequently. I would have thought it's just PPT
reacting slowly to my mouse movements, but the fact that it keeps doing it
is really strange. And now that I type this and return to PPT, it stops
happening, of course.

Sorry, I know that's not much help. All I can say is you're not crazy. If I
can repro it, I will take a screencapture of what I see and report it to
Microsoft.

This is really interesting. I created a new presentation from blank, applied
one of my themes to the title slide, then went to the Microsoft built in
themes and hovered over each thumb nail. The Live preview showed MY custom
themes title slide backgrounds (randomly changing colors) with Microsofts
title slide placeholders. NOT the Microsoft backgrounds. I was beginning to
think this was relative to my custom themes, but since it happens with the
built in Microsoft themes, I'm sure this is a bug in the Live preview feature
in the software. And the really frustrating part is that the Live preview
works so flawlessly on a secondary slide. Please report to Microsoft. I know
they will listen to you! I've been reading your Bio and am really impressed.

It has been a pleasure conversing with you., Echo. Even though it was more
"misery loves company" than anything else. Yes and it probably bothers me
ALOT more than it does you only because someone is sure to suggest that it is

problem. I hope you don't mind I use this string as ammunition! Thanks again

"misery loves company" than anything else. Yes and it probably bothers me
ALOT more than it does you only because someone is sure to suggest that it
is
due to my lack of skills/knowledge in the software that is causing the
problem. I hope you don't mind I use this string as ammunition! Thanks
again
for your help.

Thanks, pjm, but don't be too impressed. If they really listened to me,
we'd
have a different Line Spacing dialog box and a New Slide button on the
Home
tab and and and... :)

I will put this in as a bug, though. It is odd. Hard to tell what the
real
cause is, but it's sure nice to know it's not just me seeing it! I think
it
doesn't bother me as much as it does you, maybe. lol

This is really interesting. I created a new presentation from blank,
applied
one of my themes to the title slide, then went to the Microsoft built
in
themes and hovered over each thumb nail. The Live preview showed MY
custom
themes title slide backgrounds (randomly changing colors) with
Microsofts
title slide placeholders. NOT the Microsoft backgrounds. I was
beginning
to
think this was relative to my custom themes, but since it happens with
the
built in Microsoft themes, I'm sure this is a bug in the Live preview
feature
in the software. And the really frustrating part is that the Live
preview
works so flawlessly on a secondary slide. Please report to Microsoft. I
know
they will listen to you! I've been reading your Bio and am really
impressed.

:

Thanks. That's kind of what I thought you were going to say.

Your title slide layout is attached to the same slide master as the
rest
of
your slides, right?

For what it's worth, I saw the same thing happen here just now, but of
course I can see the whole slide design change because I don't have a
series
of similar themes with only color scheme differences. Actually, I just
saw
it again -- this time I got the background from one theme and the
color
scheme from the theme I'm hovering over.

I don't see this behavior frequently. I would have thought it's just
PPT
reacting slowly to my mouse movements, but the fact that it keeps
doing
it
is really strange. And now that I type this and return to PPT, it
stops
happening, of course.

Sorry, I know that's not much help. All I can say is you're not crazy.
If
I
can repro it, I will take a screencapture of what I see and report it
to
Microsoft.

Let me try to clarify. I have a new blank presentation open. I can't
decide
which of my 8 custom themes (colors) to choose for the whole
presentation,
so
I hover over each of the thumbnails trying to decide. The live
preview
on
screen shows me perfectly each of the 8 colors for my title slide. I
think
I
like Blue, so I choose it. Later I decide I want to change the color
(theme)
to Red, but want to see how the tiltle slide will look in Red. With
my
title
sllide selected and hovering over the Red thumbnail, the Live
preview
shows
me the GREEN tiltle slide (or randomly any of the other 8 custom
theme-colors) NOT Red. If I do the same for a secondary slide, the
live
preview does show Red or any other of the custom themes as I hover
over
each.

:

color), the On screen live preview, on the actual title slide
does
not
change
to reflect the color, but randomly one of the other custom
schemes
(again,
in
this case, color).

I feel like there's a word missing here somewhere that's keeping me
from
understanding exactly what's going on. I get that you've got a
Title
Slide
selected. And I get that you've selected a custom theme and that
you're
moving your mouse over other themes in the Themes Gallery on the
Design
tab,
but I'm not sure what exactly is happening when you do that.
(Sorry.
I'm
trying not to be dense, but it's just not happenin' today!)

Anyway, did you make changes to the title slide layout in Master
View?
Like
maybe add another placeholder to it? I've found that to cause odd
issues,
but I'd have to do some specific testing to be able to pinpoint it.

File>New>Blank

Only showing Custom Themes on the Design tab (I have developed 8
custom
themes where the only difference between them is the color)

I've been playing with this for hours and have found,
intereresting
enough,
that the preview (On screen- Live preview, on the actual title
slide)
works
perfectly before a theme is chosen. In other words, as I hover
over
each
custom theme thumbnails (8 different colors) on the theme nav bar
at
top,
the
title slide changes to match the thumbnail. Once a custom theme
is
chosen,
if
you change your mind and want to look at a different theme (in
this
case,
color), the On screen live preview, on the actual title slide
does
not
change
to reflect the color, but randomly one of the other custom
schemes
(again,
in
this case, color). The thumb nail and the name of the theme are
correct
and
will change to the new color if you choose that theme. It is
simply
in
the
Live preview that it does not. Also, as mentioned in my first
comment,
this
is NOT true for the secondary slides, the live preview for them
works
perfectly even after choosing one of the themes. Excuse the
rambling,
but
this is really driving me nuts! Can you think of a reason the
live
preview
would work seamlessly for the secondary slides, but NOT the
tiltle
slides?

The secondary slides preview perfectly, but the preview of the
tltle
slides
change randomly between my 8 custom themes. The hover name is
correct,
but
the preview is not. Has anyone else experienced this? And does
anyone
have a
solution?
