Problems with Linksys BEFSR41 router

Simon

I'm using a Linksys BEFSR41 router, I have 2 computers connected to the
router but for some reason after about 20 mins I keep losing internet
conection. I have the latest firmware (1.45.7, Jul 31 2003) both computers
are running XP Pro. I have reset the router, I have tried the Linksys
troubleshooter on their web site but still no joy. After I lose connection I
have to pull power, wait about 20 secs then reconect again...any help will
be greatly appreciated.

do you have anything plugged into the router right next to
the cable from your mode? If so, move it over 1.

On your suggestion, now using ports 1 and 3 on the router. Not sure what
difference that could make, can you explain please?

Is that working for you, because I'm having the same
problem with that router. Thing locks up with the red
diag lights frozen and I have to reboot it.

Simon,

The problem you're experiencing is not unknown. It appears to be a weakness in
the SR41 firmware being exploited by the background noise / internet traffic
typical in cable broadband internet systems.

You may find more detail, including a possible solution, in the BBR Linksys
forums <http://www.dslreports.com/forum/linksys>.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

I had that trouble also with that firmware. I went back to version 1.42.7,
which has been working just fine.

Still problems with disconnecting, I've now tried going back to the old
firmware, lets see if that works.

I was having the same maddening problems with that router, starting a few
weeks ago. I did two things: (1) moved the lan connectors over one position,
away from the modem connector, as someone else suggested, and (2) rolled the
firmware back to version 1.44.2 (previously 1.45.7 since late last year). My
systems have been 100% stable since doing this several days ago.

Had similiar problem - figured out that the Linksys couldn't handle
more than 1 100MB connection. Resolution - force PC NIC to be 10 MB
FULL - no problems since...

This problem just started to occur, hadn't seen it in past 2 years,
same PCs. Not sure why forcing 10 MB would fix it. But tested and
retested with 4 machines with different combinations, every time I
made 2 of them 100 Full, the router would fail off and on...
