problems with large emails

I I try to send a large email, say with attachments, it will just sit in
outbox and seems like it has not sent, but in fact it is sending the email
over and over again and the recipients will get hundreds of copies.
The size of the email varies, I always have the problem with any email over
1mb in size, sometimes even emails of 200kb or so will cause a problem.

I am using outlook 2003, and have had this same problem on multiple pc's

Do you perhaps have any AV plugin enabled?
