Problems With Install

I am attempting to install XP Pro to a new computer. However, the first
message "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration" freezes
the whole process. I easily installed the 64bit XP Pro, but this is another
matter. I have searched the KB, Google and everything I can think of, but
the problem persists. Help would definitely be appreciated.

Thanks for the information, and I'm sure it would work fine if I didn't have
XP64 installed. When I run the program it says essentially that it will not
run because I have a newer system installed. Other suggestions would be
appreciated.

XP will not let you install an older version over a newer version.
If you are determined to do this you need to download a boot floppy and
format in DOS to get rid of the 64bit version before you can install the
normal version.If you are trying to setup as a dual boot with XP Pro going
into a different partition or HD you will need to do this from within 64bit
XP and even then I am not too sure if it would take as usually the older OS
would need to be installed first.

I am trying to install XP to separate partition. Honestly, I fail to see
why this would be a problem. I have tried to install from XP64, but the top
install option is ghosted. I have tried to install in DOS. It copies the
setup files to the hdd, but on rebooting I get the inspecting hardware
configuration hang. If anyone knows a way to discover what the hangup is
from DOS, that would be helpful. I have disconnect hardware that isn't
necessary for the install with no results. I remember reading something
about ntdetect.com, but I don't know how it works.
