problems with IE and outllook

when I try to open IE with outlook open it is taking 30-45
seconds to open up ( did previously open in 2-4 seconds )
and then I get pop up ads also.

This did not happen two weeks ago!

I was out for a week and my son took over but I have
norton antivirus so I do not think it was a virus..

1. If you have Windows Messenger Service, disable it. The Messenger service
is typically not needed for home users.

Right-click My Computer and click Manage.
Click Services and Applications.
Click Services.
Scroll down to Messenger and right-click.
Stop the Service.
Choose Disable as the Startup Type.
Click OK
