Problems with HP 7260 Photosmart printer

Hiya anyone come across this before please,

Under XP Pro SP2 if I try to install the latest (indeed any) HP printer
drivers for my 7260 printer I get the blue screen of death when if comes to
finalising and accepting the printer as my default or not. This is
with/without any non-Microsoft services or start-up programs running.

Went I do finally get the driver working if I then switch the printer off or
disconnect the USB while the computer is on I get the Blue screen of death
which performs a memory dump to "save my hardware from possible damage"!!.

Connect the printer via the front USB port (intended for camera connection)
and installation of the driver could not be easier, installed without any
problems and I can turn the printer on and off with the computer
running. only problem (if it is one!) is that the part of the driver program
which shows estimated amount
of ink left in the cartridges does not work.

Anyone else come across this problem with HP drivers and found a solution
please.

TIA

Did this happen also under SP1,
Might have to try a new USB cable too.
I have the same printer and have not had a problem under either SP1 or SP2
When I bought mine the clerk at CompUSA said good luck....they have had a
lot of them returned.....
I also noticed a few updates on the HP site for this printer if you havent
tried those already.

Thanks, but tried that and other USB port. Guess I need to buy another
brand printer.
