problems with games on thei nterent shutting down

Hi, we are having major problems with our computer when online. when games are being played online through yahoo, runescape etc the window we are playing just closes down. recently a supposedly self calling " expert went into the start up menu of our computer and changed something to do with our onboard video card. Would this be the reason for the problems we are having? if so how do i get into my computer to fix it. the changes that were made had something to do with going from 4mb to 32mb in videocard settings. any help would be great

Also the software we are using is windows xp home edition and my computer is a acer t300 standard
