Problems with EZ Trust Again!!

H

Heather

Once again, it is refusing to update. I keep getting Error #3 and am about
to get rid of this for good. It tries to d/l a 3 meg full set of defs, I am
assuming.

Consensus is that Avast! is better than AVG, right? I believe Shaggy was
recommending that one.

Don't know why EZ Trust is so contrary these days, but it is doing the same
on my old WinME. Anyone know why??

I have so done in the past. Frequent updates (daily, or more often
depending on current threats) are on the order of .. 2KB to maybe 15KB.
Yes, KiloBytes.

Yessir!! 3,193 kb or some such every time!! Usually about 215 kb. I sent
off a report to them, but have turned the durned thing off coz it keeps
flashing at me due to the error.

Thanks, puss. I will d/l that one and see how we fare. Still getting used
to XP.....some minor bugs to work out. But the guy who built this computer
is in Paris for a week, so will wait till he gets back.

Love your tagline.....lol.

All you gotta do is click on the file name. <g> Oh, disable the other

another one using BD. I recommended BD to Heather too. But she prefered
EZtrust and now perhaps Avast. Everybody seems to make his own

Mike and I could get upset, you know!

IIRC, your monitor should be quite capable of running at reasonable speeds
and resolutions - perhaps it's your old bugbear the drivers? (In which case,
maybe you'd better wait for Willy!)

.....Just realised why I haven't heard from you (or others) for a
while......I'd hidden the damned folders!!
Will respond when I get back from a service call.

Thank you for your recommendation, Peter. I have not replaced EZ Trust as
of yet because after I posted, it started working just fine. But one more
episode of this and I will change.

I believe you said that Bit Defender costs euros/dollars. This EZ Trust I
have was a free one-year trial. However, I have used the pay version and
free InoculateIT PE for many years. And it does the job, when it works. I
will have a look at your recommendation. I do detest change, unfortunately,
lol.

Cheers.....Heather

Hey, I am getting better at drivers. Willy helped me out with some
motherboard ones. (or some such). I even went to Samtron to d/l ones for
XP, but there are none. The resolution is 800 x 600.....if I try for
higher, everything is so small I can't read it. Roxio 7 won't work unless I
raise it, for instance.

You are forgiven. I thought I was on your sh*t list, grin. Durned
newbies!! Can't even handle OE folders. ROFL!!

Why not be a cheapskate and use KASFX? Haven't you graduated yet
to just on-demand scanning along with safe hex? If that doesn't suit
you, find a version of KAV or one of the products that use the
Kaspersky scan engine that suits your fancy.

Yes, I use safe hex and just use my AV to manually scan downloads, but KASFX
did look a tad complicated. I will have another look at it, Arthur. (G)

Hi, Heather,

You may want to try the latest release, which is version 7.0.8.1. Maybe
CA has worked out some of the bugs. I couldn't find any documentation
about what's changed and outwardly there's no difference in the
application. Here's the link:

ftp://ftp.ca.com/pub/myeTrust/apps/EZAntivirus.exe

I uninstalled the previous version before updating. It's not required,
but it may help if you're already having some problems. You'll need the
license key to upgrade if you uninstall the application first.

Arthur, eh? Does that mean I can't call you Figgs? :)

Since KASFX (and escan) is supposed to be the height of simplicity
because of its use by average users in a panic ... I'd sure like to
hear what it is you think is complicated. Its disadvantage (sort of)
for routine scanning is that it only offers Scan/Clean. It doesn't
delete, though. It renames. So that disadvantage isn't particularly
significant. I've never seen KAV false alarm on good files.

Anyone wanting to use it routinely can drag icons out to the desktop
for mwavscan.com (Escan) and KAV-UP.BAT (the updater).

Thanks, D........to the rescue once again. I will download it and follow
your instructions. I am pretty sure the licence key stays in the registry
somewhere, but will note it down.

And one of these days, when I get a spare minute, I will drop you a line and
try and remember all the things I was going to ask you. Been a little
*hairy* here on the personal front for a while.

Cheers.....Figgs
