Problems with e-bay searches & links

Can anyone help with this?

The problem I am experiencing is only within the e-bay site.

Whilst I can get the e-bay home page OK, and also 'My e-bay', whenever I try
and do a search or click on any links within the site, I immediately get the
'The page cannot be displayed' message.

Normally, I would assume that this is a problem with the e-bay site, but I
am getting it so often (100% of the time over the past few days) and so
immediately that I am thinking it might be something to do with my own
settings. I have spoken to friends who use the site and they experience no
problems.

I am running Windows 2000 and connecting via Broadband to Virgin.net (UK).
Virgin support initially gave me a proxy server number to insert within LAN
Settings (62.255.0.5) but this made no difference.

Any ideas? I use e-bay quite a lot and it is very irritating!

Thanks.

Make sure you have a clean hosts file. Also make sure you have scripting and ActiveX enabled. Lastly turn off all AV software and firewall. I am not saying to run like this but do to determine if the problems originate there. I have had no problems (other than when their servers are down). Yes their servers go down often so you may have just tried when they are down.

Thanks George.

All I have to do now is to find out what all of that means and I'll be
sorted!!

Search for enabling ActiveX and scripting in Internet Explorer on Google

Search for hosts in Windows on Google

Search for how to turn off Antivirus software and Firewalls in your documentation.

Search for "How often does Ebay fail?" in Google.

Apparently it's a problem with the virgin.net servers - they don't
work with hotmail and a few other sites as well as ebay ... it's been
going on for weeks now.

I initially got a response from virgin saying there "seemed to be a
problem for some users" but have not had any reply to a subsequent
email.

I use XP and dial up so I've just changed my ISP.

Cool.

Search for "How to stay away from rogue ISPs" on Google. AOL should return at least 1000hits.
