Problems when networking Windows 98 and XP

Hello experts,

I am trying to network two PCs running Windows 98 and Windows XP
respectively.

I connected them with a D-Link hub. I can ping from Xp to 98, but when
trying to ping from 98 to XP, the systemm is saying " request timed out".

Could any experts in this group shed some light on this?

I have a like setup. I seem to get various strangeness from the 98 to
XP connection. Right now everything works except the 98 can't see my shared
printer on one of the XP machines. The other machines can see it fine.

Frankly if I had to do it over, I think I would have bought another copy
of XP.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions. I have never been sure why anything
I tried worked or did not work.
