Problems w/ XP Reinstall ...

Hi ... thanks for reading ... in a severe quandry, and I
need to save my butt.

Was working on parents machine (Dell - OEM ver. of XP
Home), and did normal Norton update for virus upgrades.
On reboot of machine, nothing worked - could not start in
Safe Mode - would not even come up to WinXP splash-screen.

Downloaded WinXP System boot disks to see if that would
help - no dice. Ended up having to reinstall same OEM
ver. of XP Home.

XP now reinstalled on machine, but things are funky.
There are two users with the same name, one of which also
has computer name tag as well. Believe this is the user I
was required to create during reinstallation.

Here's the deal - only a select # of programs seem to be
working fine. Lost the Internet connection stuff (which
parents are peeved at). Cannot launch Money 2002 at all -
dad really peeved now, since he has a financial audit
later this month and needs this to work NOW. Haven't
tried Office programs, but am worried.

Anyway, I'm in the doghouse right now, and I need a few
ideas on how to get out of it in a hurry. Will be back in
an hour or so to see if anyone out in Internet land has
any ideas as to what I did and what I can do to correct my
errors. Thanks for your help!
