I recently tried to upgrade to XP Home Edition from ME
which is on my computer. When it was complete both my
modem and CD-RW were not recognized. It did show me a
couple of things that it said wouldn't work, but neither
of these were there. I also have checked the HCL list and
both are on there. I uninstalled and went back to ME and
the modem was there, but my CD was still gone. I shut the
system down for the day and now the CD is back. I really
want to upgrade to XP, but need some help figuring out
what is going on. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Clint
Upgrading from ME to XP is a piece of cake and will work great, the modem
missing in XP setup is a common problem and can be fix real easily by
looking in the device manager and downloading the driver from the
manufactures website, or you can go to the Add Hardware wizard in the
Control Panel and add a generic modem (mine works great). As for the CD-RW
missing that is a less common problem but it does happen and here is a
possible fix for it.
