ME to XP Home Upgrade txtsetup.sif error

dI have a 4 year old ME machine that had become very unstable, so I upgraded
the memory from 64 to 320 and bought a copy of XP Home bundled with Service
Pack 2. I tried to do a clean install, but kept getting
"IRGQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL", so thinking myself very clever, I reformatted the
40G hard drive, pulled out my FireWire card and modem, and reinstalled ME.
LIfe is beautiful. I popped in the XP setup CD and proceeded to try to
upgrade ME to XP. After quite a lot of spinning and copying, entering the
Product Key, more spinning and copying, I got the error message "INF file
txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 14. Setup cannot continue. Press
any key to exit." And it dumps me back to my new, clean, minimal ME. Any
ideas???

Do a clean install of xp,install xp cd,exit info page,restart computer,boot to
xp cd (you may need to adjust for this in BIOS,boot priority devices),then at
info page,select,install xp,new copy,delete the partition (ME),create
one,then
let xp format and install auto.XP doesnt need any ME files.
