had to install 2 hp inkjet printers and make them networkable. Easy, right??
well I spent 3 hours and still don't have the problem fixed. Locally
the printers work just fine but on the network :

1. I was able to make one printer networkable. It can be seen and printed to
from other machines. However every time i restart the machines I am getting
prompt
asking me for the login information from the computer which hosts the
printer. I've
created the same account on all the machines so that users be able to loggon
to the print serving
computer. Is there a way to save this password permanently under windows
2000. There is no checkbox.

2. One of the machines is XP and it just autofinds the computer but can't
print to it. I am
getting a popup baloon telling me that print job faield.

3. The second printer (which is exactly the same model as the first one)
which had to be networked
I can see and connect to but when i try to print nothing happens--no
error messages or anything.

All computers except for one are windows 2000. Both machines acting as
print severs are windows 2000.

I would be very grateful for any tips or suggestions.
thank you

The heck with that. I did it a different way.

With three printers, two inkjet and one laser, I purchased a Netgear PS101
(Parallel Port to Ethernet Mini Print Server) for each printer. I connected
the PS101 (a little box) to the parallel port for each printer. I then
connected the printers directly to the network via standard Cat 5.

I then installed the software on one computer to configure all three
devices. Now, anyone with the IP address of the printer can print to it,
regardless of whether they have Windows, Linux or a Pocket PC (in one case).

I wish it were this easy. The printers ARE network enabled but I don't have
a hun or a router
available wher I need to set them up. So that's not an option. They also
don't have parrralel ports
just USB and network ports.
