Problems Sharing folder with Win98 PC

Gavin

Hello. I am having trouble sharing a folder on a Win2K PC
w/ a PC running Win98. Everytime the Win98 user tries to
open the shared folder on the Win2K PC, it prompts for a
password, but there is no password set on the folder. In
addition, the PCs are in the same workgroup.

Other Win2K PCs are able to access the shared folder, and
the Win2K "server" PC is able to access shared folders on
the Win98 PC.

The length of the Win2K PC is 3 characters long and the
shared folder's name is only 4 characters long.

Any help is appreciated!
Thank you,
GB

You need to create a user account on the Windows 2000 machine that is the
same name and password as the account you use to log on to the Windows 98
machine.

We do not use profiles, but I can create one. We use
Netware for the user accounts and Windows for the
previledges on the computers. However, Win98 does not
require a Windows user account so the Netware account gets
them onto the network and into the computer.

Thanks a lof Phil. If you have some more ensite, please
feel free to email me.

Thanks again!!!

You don't need a profile. Are you also using client for MS networks on
the 98 PCs? You can use that along with the Novell client. This will
create a PWL file on the local 98 PC that will be used to gain access to
the Win2000 shared files.
