Problems running Sisoft Sandra since SP2

Hi all,
I'm having a problem running Sisoft Sandra 2004 SP2 since installing
XP Pro SP2. It's more of an annoyance than a major drama, but I'd
like to figure out why.

I recently installed Windows XP Pro SP2 (Clean install from
slipstreamed CD on a freshly formatted partition). Since XP SP2
Sandra has been showing strange behaviour. When I start sandra the
following happens:

1) Start Sandra
2) Sandra takes about 90-120 seconds to open
3) Once it open all seems to work fine.
4) I can close down Sandra and subsequent running will open as
normal.

I then noticed after Sandra has started I have constant Hard Drive
activity (activity light is constantly lit). The activity remains
even when sandra is closed (continues until reboot, though doesn't
seem to cause any major dramas). I later noticed my two DVD Burners
have disappeared from Windows Explorer. Investigating EventViewer
revealed the following entries in order.

1) Service Control Manager - The SANDRA service was successfully
sent a start control.

2) PlugPlay Manager - The device 'LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-832S'
(IDE\CdRomLITE-ON_DVDRW_SOHW-832S_________________VS0A____\5&16d32d99
&0&0.1.0) disappeared from the system without first being prepared
for removal.

3) PlugPlay Manager - The device 'PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D'
(IDE\CdRomPIONEER_DVD-RW__DVR-107D________________1.18____\44_0444430
4c363131385735204c202020202020) disappeared from the system without
first being prepared for removal.

The above events occur each time I use Sandra.

I have uninstalled sandra several times. I have also reinstalled
Windows and run Sandra before any other software has been installed
other than video drivers. Nothing seems to help.

BTW - Sandra worked fine with exact hardware config with XP SP1.

Everything else seems to be fine. Any ideas what could be causing
the problem with Sandra?

Thanks

Michael

Hi again,

Problem solved:

It was hardware related. For some reason (God only knows why) since
installing XP SP2 The liteon DVD burner doesn't like being the slave
device on IDE 2.

Pioneer DVD Burner as master + Liteon DVD Burner as Slave = Problem

Liteon as master + Pioneer as slave = ok

Thanks

Mick
