Problems publishing to new web host

We are using Microsoft windows XP-Home on new laptop with a verizon Air
Card, and FrontPage 2002 with extensions. We have submitted our website of
1500 pages and pictures to a new web host. It took two or three tries to get
it all there. Now it keeps wanting to publish and republish the same pages
that it has already sent over - FrontPage will not releive the green check
marks next to the individual pages and pictures. Then when it gets to update
pages it never stops "Processing".

Our new host went ahead and reset the account - took us back to an empty
Directory (?) and we reloaded all pages and pictures again - got half way
using "load all pages" and "use destination web changes" instead of
"timestamp". It only loaded about half so we again loaded everyting using
the mouse right click PUBLISH SELECTED FILES/FOLDERS after highlighting them
etc. Off and on it will "list pages" forever when beginning to publish, and
if it doesn't do that it seems to "process" the pages forever at the end.

Today we thought we had it all uploaded and then to test the site we changed
a few little things on a couple of pages, saved them, and published using
CHANGED PAGES ONLY and TIME STAMP. Now many of the pictures are missing from
our site again??? I have written the web host, but their last attempt may
have been when they reset our site/account and we started over.

Today we received thie following error message, but we have received many
messages (ie server can not parse, our site is not at the servers etc).

We received the following message today:
"The server could not complete your request. Contact your Internet Service
provider or web server administrator to make sure that FrontPage Server
Extensions or Sharepoint Team Services from Microsoft are Installed.

Details: 500 Server Error 500 Server Error a misconfiguration on the server
caused a hiccup. Check server logs, fix problem and try again.
url://globaldiscount.net/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe.

After this error message, we even reloaded FrontPage CD/software again.
Please help if you have any ideas - - we are out of ideas as to what we can
do. Thank you for help, Dick Williams http://globaldiscount.net

Do you have the ability to publish with via dial-up, cable or DSL connection?

As you will need to use the File Menu | Publish Web command and not the Publish Selected Page
function, since all that does is to copy the individual files to the server, but not any linked
content such as images, shared borders, themes, etc. or to allow the FP extensions to be updated on
the server to know what content is within the site.

Dear Thomas, Thanks we have tried File Menu | Publish Web first with the
air card. (and that works with our 2nd website giftandgiftideas.com just
fine at the same web Host. It did take us approx. 2 weeks to get the 2nd
website working) We only went to publish selected pages when are hard drive
Front Page would not releive the green checked pages during publishing. Dick

You're doing this via cellular connection?

What happens if you try it via a landline?

You might want to do a full publish via landline than go to cellular after the main stuff is loaded.

Dick,

Publishing Selected Pages should be avoided, unless the page is already on the live/remote site and
the only reason you are using Selected Publishing is because you have made minor changes to the
actually text content on the page, since nothing but the physical file is actually "copied" to the
server.

FP will keep trying to re-publish content until both your local and remote copies are in sync, and
this will not happen until your can do a Publish with Change Page Only selected.

Most of your pictures are located in the index_files folder. Are you sure
you imported those pictures to that folder? I use T-Mobile air card for web
updates, but not initial publishing - argh, 56k modem-esque!

Thank you everyone for your help!!! -

Thomas we thought about what you said, and we can go ahead and send the site
over to the host if we reconnect our land line to our computer (we were going
to cancel our ground internet service last week and didn't get it done :) -
so I will reconnect tot he ground phone, ask the host to reset our account
again and resend the site.

I have a question about that - not sure if this could even happen but if the
transfer is cut short and the complete site does not make it is it better to
then send the balance of the pages again using CHANGED PAGES or ALL
PAGES/TIME STAMP or DESTINATION WEB?

Also we thought about it over night and (we're going to try the ground phone
first) couldn't we also create a holding site (ie globaldiscount2) and hold
most of the files in that site - send just the index and a few folders over
to the web host, then transfer a few folders from the holding site into the
real folder and then publish them as new pages?? We created this last year,
and sent new pages daily - I never paid attention to what the settings were
(Changed pages, all pages) when we published but it all went smoothly. I
think we must have been using changed pages? I'm asking because I am trying
to understand how Frontpage thinks. Next time we change web hosts we may not
have a ground phone at all. Actually we never want to go through this
again!!! :- ) Thank you again for all your help, Dick and Chris

I would continue to use the same publishing option until the complete site is published. I normally
publish using Change Page only, even to a new web account.
