Problems opening Access 2000 file in Access 2002

I've been sent a database developed using Access 2000. I
assumed that lower versions of a software could be opened
in a higher version ie. Access 2002, but I guess I was
wrong. First I thought maybe the file itself was
corrupted, but when I tried to open the file via
Access 2000 the file would open. When trying to open in
Access 2002 I receive the following fatal system error:
Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for inconvenience. Looking in event
viewer for the error it read: Faulting application
msaccess.exe, version 10.0, faulting module vbe6.dll,
version 6.3.91.8, fault address 0x00058baf
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem

A2000 can be opened without any problems in A2002. A97 can be opened
in A2000 or A2002 but, without converting, you can only make changes
to the records in tables.

I'd suggest trying a decompile. Make a backup first. See the

NOTE: Since it was created with 2000, 2002 will not let you edit it
unless you convert it to a 2002/XP Access file first. You can open it
and manipulate data and print reports, but you can't change any of the
designs.

While this was true with A97 MDBs and A2000/A2002 this is not correct
with A2000 MDBs and A2002. A2002 can happily update all objects in an
A2000 MDB.

2-This one is the most likely and the hardest to get around. It is
that you have two different versions of ACCESS installed on one
machine. Although MS doesn't seem to warn people of this you should do
only have one version of ACCESS (and FrontPage) on a machine at a
time.

No comments on FrontPage as I have no expertise in that area.

Actaully MS does state you shouldn't have multiple versions of Access
on your system. I don't recall the specific KB article.

However many people, including me, are happily running three or more
versions of Access on our systems all the time.

I tried both of your suggestions and I still could not get
the Access 2000 file to open in Access 2002.
