Tried Tony's suggestion to decompile, but I still ended up
with the same error message that I explained below.
Also tried Eloyd's suggestions, which also didn't work.

I've been sent a database developed using Access 2000. I
assumed that lower versions of a software could be opened
in a higher version ie. Access 2002, but I guess I was
wrong.

A2000 can be opened without any problems in A2002. A97
can be opened
in A2000 or A2002 but, without converting, you can only
make changes
to the records in tables.
First I thought maybe the file itself was
corrupted, but when I tried to open the file via
Access 2000 the file would open. When trying to open in
Access 2002 I receive the following fatal system error:
Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for inconvenience. Looking in event
viewer for the error it read: Faulting application
msaccess.exe, version 10.0, faulting module vbe6.dll,
version 6.3.91.8, fault address 0x00058baf

I'd suggest trying a decompile. Make a backup first.
See the
Decompile page at my website.

Create a new database and import all the objects from the old database into the new one.
If this still causes a problem, repeat the above one object at a time until you figure out
which one is causing the problem.

Are the Access 2002 and Access 2000 on different computers or same computer with different
operating systems? If so, are both running the same version of DAO? To find out, check the
version of msjet40.dll in the Windows\System directory. This directory will be System32
instead of System on an NT computer and the Windows directory may or may not be WinNT.

Could this be the problem? Possible, but not definite. The versions of Jet4 you are
running are very old.

To get the newest version (SP7, v4.0.7328.0) run Windows Update. More information is
available at
http://support.microsoft.com/?KBID=282010

Some folks have had problems with SP7. I looked but didn't see a link to the SP6 files.

You may also want to look at the article "Windows 2000 SP4, Access, Jet SP7 bug, ODBC
driver" dated 11 Aug 2003 in this newsgroup.
