Problems on clean install of XP Home

D

Doug Smith

I just purchased XP Home Edition to install on my 800MHz
PIII system. This machine is using an ASUS CUV4X
motherboard and 384MB of PC100 SDRAM. The text mode
portion of the install goes just fine, and it switches
into graphical mode OK, but as it starts to install the
devices (with about 39 minutes left in the install), I
get a bluescreen. This bluescreen tells me to turn of
BIOS shadowing and other forms of caching and to start
over. I've done that, but I get the same error. I can't
get past this point in the install.

Is there a way to pin down which device is causing the
error? How can I figure out how to resolve this?

Thanks,
Doug

So long as youre BIOS is up to date, enter BIOS,exit page, select "load set-up
defaults" then save changes and exit. Then boot to xp cd,select install xp,new
copy, deleting former windows os.This formats the hd,then installs xp.

This is exactly what I've done. It still fails. Win98
was working fine on this machine. More ideas?
