Problems networking an XP laptop to a W2k network

I have a windows w2k network with cable modem and router. The W2k
works well all computers seeing each other etc. The XP laptop,
configured to wotk with a differnet XP network finds the router and
modem, having turned off the proxy server, but it will not see any of
the W2k machines even though you can ping them. All machines are set
up for sharing. Can anyone guide me as to how to change to XP machine
to see the W2k computers and visa versa

Without knowing how either network is set up, it's hard to say what's
