problems logging into

Hi not sure if this is the right area for this but here goes:

I have a Windows 2000 Server running Active directory and a domain
controller. The server is plugged in a router/DSL modem. On the server it is
connecting to the internet and I can log into the router page. I created a
user and set a password.

Now another computer that is plugged into the router is running Windows XP
Pro. I went in and had it join the domain with not error, and rebooted the
pc. Now when I try to log into the domain it hangs at loading personal
settings. Any idea on what it could be? Do I need to add or change something
on the server? Or is this something on the computer trying to connect to the
active directory? If I do not try to log into the domain and select this
computer it works. It just will not let me load up my desktop when I select
to log into the server. Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like a DNS issue. Do you have DNS running and configured properly?

What I orginally had setup to get dns info automatically. I now set it to a
static dns server address. That is what has gotten my to loading into domain
but it is slow.

Is the Windows 2000 server running DNS? Your DNS entry on your XP machine
must point to the Windows 2000 AD machine which ideally should be handling
DNS queries.
