Internet not working when logging into Domain

Greg

Our network consists of 1 Windows 2000 Server running
Active Directory and a Netware 6 Server. We are running
a wireless router that acts as our firewall.

All workstations are logging into the Netware server
while still accessing resources through mapped drives on
the Windows 2000 Server. All workstations are configured
to access the internet through the router's ip settings.
These are the internel (192.168.x.x) settings.

I want to do away with the Novell Server and just have
everyone log into the Windows Domain only. I tested one
workstation and was able to login to the domain without a
problem. My only issue is that i can't access the
internet now. I configured the DNS settings on the
workstation with the IP of the Server. Is there anything
that i can do to make this workstation access the
internet?

Thanks,
Greg

It's not that you cannot "access" the Internet, but rather
that you are (likely) not resolving the DNS names for
Internet resources.

You (really) must have your internal clients pointed at
the INTERNAL DNS server so not they cannot resolve
Internet resource names directly.

The fix is to have the INTERNAL DNS server use the
"old" DNS server (your gateway, your ISP, etc) as it's
forwarder.

On the DNS server properties->DNS tab there is
setting for this.

UNLESS you have a "." zone on your server (which sometimes
happens by accident -- don't ask for now) which you do NOT
need.

Delete any "." zone from the MS server if "forwarders" are
disabled.
