Problems loading XP onto computer.

I've tried both the upgrade from Win 98 and the clean
install route and the same problem happens both ways.

Everything goes ok until the setup gets to installing
Network.... then the machine reboots and re-starts setup
from installing Devices and so it goes just like Groundhog
day.

According to the compatibility checker my machine should
be able to run XP... but I can't even get it load.

What is happening?
 
Greetings --

Try removing the network adapter and modem, if installed, until
after you have to OS installed, and then reinstall the components one
at a time.
