XP doesn't load desktop icons

Hi there,

I'm having a problem with a few of our Windows XP machines.

When a user logs into her XP machine onto the the network, her icons
don't load up.

I logged in her machine under my names, and icons loaded fine. she
then logged back into her PC and her icons appeared.

Any ideas?

Try this under her login. Simply right click anywhere on the desktop then
select "Arrange Icons By" then select the 3rd one from the bottom by putting
a check by "Show Desktop Icons" and you are done. Make it a great day.

That's not likely to help much as I'll bet the check is already there or
it wouldn't be intermittant as described in the OP. It sounds more like
a problem with the icon cache.

You are as unknowledgeable as they come. Using a MVP moniker and being a fraud on
top. Boy you are a number.

If you want to know the answer then it has to do with the icon cache and not a
idiotic answer as you gave for the OP's issue

Lost your way again Peter. Better get a guide dog! Your blindness humors me.
Let the OP state if I helped or not. Everything loads up but her icons, go
figure. No fake MVP here.

Also try this if my previous reply was not able to correct your problem:

Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
On the Desktop tab, click Customize Desktop.
Under Desktop icons, click to select the check boxes of the icons you want
to view.
Click OK two times.

Peter and Charles,

How can I clear the icon cache?

Thanks

Lee

As "Charles" (who *isn't* a Microsoft MVP, so take everything else he says
with a hefty pinch of salt) either doesn't know how to or thinks it's not
even worth trying, this is what to do:

In Windows Explorer browse to the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data

and delete the file IconCache.db (it'll recreate itself). It's a hidden
file, so if needs be temporarily enable the viewing of those: in Windows
Explorer, Tools > Folder Options > "View" tab > "Show hidden files and
folders".

Then prove it by providing a link to your MVP profile. Otherwise we will all
continue to think you are a liar. Lord knows you aren't a tech.

Even if, which I doubt, you hold the "title", you're still a fake!
