Problems Installing Windows XP on a new Computer

Hello,

I am having troubles installing Windows XP on a computer I am building.

I installed a Celeron 1.8G Processor, 2 X 256M DDR Corsair memory modules
and a Mad Dog Multimedia Champion MX 400 GeForce 2 Graphics Card on a
Chaintech Summit SPT800. I have connected it to a Western Digital 120G HD and
a KhyperMedia CDROM. When I power on the system it POSTs fine and I can enter
the BIOS.

However, I cannot install Windows XP Home on the computer. The computer
boots from the CD but during the installation, in Windows Setup, I get a Stop
Error message of:

Session3_Initialization_Failed 0x0000006F (0xC0000020, 0x00000000,
0x00000000, 0x00000000).

The message says this is probably a hardware driver issue. I am confused by
this since the POST indicates everything is working and Windows seems to be
installing the drivers.

I tried several things including: loading the defaults in the BIOS,
resetting the CMOS and loading the optimized defaults, but I keep getting the
same error message.

Chaintech allowed me to return this motherboard which they replaced with
another one. But I still got the Session3_Initialization_Failed error with
the new board.

I contacted Corsair who advised to test the memory by installing one module
at a time, and switching the modules positions. I all cases I received the
Session3_Initialization_Failed error. Corsair has also offered to return the
memory modules for new ones.

At this point I realized that I had a Windows XP reinstallation disk for my
Dell computer. I tried installing this on the computer and it installed with
NO problem and NO errors.

Now, with a successful installation of Windows XP on the new computer, I
tried to do a “re-install†of Windows XP using the copy I purchased to write
over the Dell Windows XP install. Once again, I get the
Session3_Initialization_Failed error. So, it appears to me that the problem
is not with the computer’s hardware and the problem is with the Windows XP CD.

So next, I tried to activate this installation with the Product Key from the
copy of Windows XP I purchased, but it will not accept that key. I have
Windows XP installed now but I cannot activate it.

I do not know what to do next. How can I get Windows XP installed and
activated on my new computer??

Thank you in advance for your help,

Andy Walsh

With any new board, one should 1st clear the CMOS then reset pins back to
1-2 position, also, the battery should be removed during the proccedure. Then
exit page in BIOS,load set-up defaults or optimal defaults, then set basic
settings.
How is wdc set,if master and single on IDE chain,no jumper pins are used,if
master with other, the middle pin recieves the jumper.A Dell recovery xp cd
should only be used and installed on the dell board it came with. You might
put
wdc on diffrent IDE,download wdc DOS utility and 0 out the drive, then
low-level
format, shutdown after, boot to xp cd on restart, recovery, press enter for
password,
then type:DiskPart delete partition,create,then press Esc,then
restart,reboot to
xp cd,try the reinstall.

....or he could just return the CD and get one that works.

What a load of rubbish.

I strongly recommend that you contact Microsoft Technical Support.

It is free to you to overcome installation problems.

They can assist you in:
1. Resolving the installation from your retail CD. Maybe send a replacement
media. OR
2. Activate with the Retail Product Key OR
3. Determine if there is any other fault they can overcome.
