XP home setup error

I'm upgrading my Aunt's computer from 98 to XP home (with her permission of
course )

When i boot the XP cd for the setup program i get this error:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your comluter.

SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appeas again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If
this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for
any Windows updates you might need.

If this problem continues, disable or remove any BIOS memory options such as
caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable
components, restart your computer, press F8 to sesect Advanced Startup
Options, and then select Safe Mode.

At first this screen appeared before i ahd to option to "press enter to
install windows". then it appeared afterwards, and now finally it's back to
before again.

The step I've done to the computer are as follows:
copied any needed/wanted/important data off onto another HDD
unpartitioned, repartitioned, and formated (NTFS) the HDD
disconnected every other hardware execpt for the HDD that I'm installing
to, the
CD-ROM i'm using for the XP disc, the Keyboard, the mouse, and the video
card.

Does anyone know what would cause this problem and/or how to fix it?

And yes the computer meets or beats the minimum system requirements.

How does or why did you convert to ntfs with 98 installed,youve corrupted
the file system.98 uses FAT32 file system while xp uses ntfs,you should
convert the disk after xp was installed.Also,have you adjusted the boot
priority
in the BIOS,giving the cdrom 1st as the selection.

I didn't keep 98 on the HDD. I'm going to install the upgrade by starting it
and show it the 98 disc when it asks for it. As I stated i formatted to ntfs
after repartitioning it.
Also i'm aware that i could have done so after installing XP, but i had a
problem on my PC when i did so: computer wouldn't boot and i had to use the
recovery function to fix the bootsector.

Before you blew away the Win98 installation did you run the
Upgrade Advisor to check if there were any components that were
incompatable with Windows XP? You might want to reinstall 98
and run the compatability check.

Did you check with the computer manufacturer to see if there's
a BIOS update for this machine?

Have you considered reinstalling Win98 and running the upgrade
from within Windows? You can convert the hard drive to NTFS
after the upgrade is completed.

Since you have a retail upgrade CD, you might want to contact
Microsoft. According to their web site, they offer no charge
