Problems in general :|

ok there are three problems on my computer at the minute:

1.my dvd-rom drive is being doubled
2.computer crashes randomly with a repetive sound being
played via speakers
3. some "other devices" have no drivers

Now to explain that in more detail:

1.dvd rom drive is being doubled on the my computer
screen and in the drivers section of system it is saying
that i have two dvd rom drives one in location 0 which is
the actual drive and then another which is in Bus Number
0, Target ID 0, LUN 0 which means nothing to me. any idea
of how to solve this doubling issue?
2.computer will crash randomly ie while palying games or
watching a dvd with a sound being played over and over
again on the speakers till i switch ym pc off this
suggests a sound card problem but ive updated the card
with the latest drivers. and in the device manager there
is only one sound driver that is in conflict and thats
the "Standard Game port" which is "on CMI8738/C3DX PCI
Audio Device" and is using the resources "I/O range 0201-
0201" which doesnt make sense can anyone help em with
this?
3. other devices in the device manager have no drivers
after looking for them using the plug and play method
they dont appear on the system. They are called "Ethernet
Controller" and "SM Bus Controller" of whihc i dont know
what they do or are meant for can anyone help me reenable
them?

I'm strictly a novice, but.....

Delete one of the 'doubled' dvd drives using device manager.

You may have to remove sound card and drivers, and start all over
again.

If you are not using ethernet or anything requiring the sm bus, just
'disable' them.
I read in a tweak somewhere that this speeds up booting in that the system
does
not search for the drivers.

for problem 1: no solution at this time, sorry..
problem 2: had the same problems with some on-board sound cards, most of the times it's solved with removing all (ALL!!) driver software from the soundcard and reïnstalling. If this doesn't work.... euh, then I just formatted and rebooted everything. Another solution is to buy a well known brand of soundcard (as there is creative, ....) and plug that one in and shut of the onboard sound (sometimes possible in bios, or with software from motherboard, or maybe a switch on motherboard itself)
problem 3: is network (ethernet) card onboard or is it a pci card? onboard: look for drivers on cd you got with motherboard. pci card: you should have got a disk or cd with that card, or with your pc. look there. SM bus controller drivers are also mostly found on the cd of the motherboar
