Problems importing from video camera

I am having problems importing from my video camera. I get this message
Import video could not find a compatible digital video device. Verify that
the digital video device is properly connected and turned on). Can someone
please help me out.

More information is needed. What make and model of video camera, what
method of connecting the camera to the computer, what operating system does
the computer have on it and therefore what version of Movie Maker is being
run.

the make of the video camera is JVC GR-DA30U. I am connecting it with a
firewire cable. Using windows vista. Hope that helps.
