error in importing video

I cannot import the videos taken with my new Sony Handycam. I get an error
message:
C:\Documents and Settings\Harrison\My Documents\My
Pictures\12-23-2009\2-toed Sloth.mpg could not be imported. An interface has
too many methods to fire events from

Any suggestions? I can import the still photos and video taken with my
Canon Still digital camera. Also, last year, I was able to import video from
a Canon mini-dv camcorder.

Movie Maker has compatiblity issues with .mpg files.
Best bet would be to convert the files to the .wmv format
before importing into Movie Maker.

For more info...see the following article:

Movie Maker 2 - Importing MPEG Files
http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Importing-Video-MPEG2.html

The following freeware can do the conversion:

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Format Factory
http://www.pcfreetime.com/
(FWIW...you may want to uncheck
all the boxes on the final screen)

After downloading and installing Format Factory...
open the program and choose an Output Folder...
(this is where you will find your files after they are
converted)

Drag/drop your audio/video clips onto the
main screen...

Select 'All to WMV' / OK...

Click...Start...on the toolbar...

That should do it...
