Problems downloading from websites

I have started having problems downloading anything off
the internet. When attempting to download I am redirected
to a search engine website that I have never been to
before this started happening. This problem seems to have
started at the same time as another problem cropped up. I
also am exeriencing a problem with my favorites and
homepage. Each time that I restart my computer this
webpage reinstates itself as my homepage and adds four
other pages to my favorites list. I have cleared my
cookies and deleted my temporary files repeatedly but that
has not rectified the situation. I have no idea what to
do now and am getting increasingly frustrated. Can anyone
assist???? Please!!!!!
