Unable to permanently delete unwanted files in "favorites list"

Sequence of Events using Internet Explorer

1. Unwanted files in "favorites list"
2. I go to "internet options" and delete "cookies"
3. I go to "internet options" and delete "temporary files"
4. I empty the "recycle bin"
5. I verify that the files are deleted in "internet
options", "view files"
6. I am using YAHOO as my homepage
7. I shutdown my computer
8. I start-up my computer
9. The "unwanted files" in the "favorites list" returns
10. My YAHOO homepage disappears

Please help...So far Gateway and YAHOO have not.
