When I'm on the net and looking at web sites if I want to
close down the browser nothing happens so I have to close
down using Ctrl + Alt + Del.

I have XP intalled on my machine and plenty of space
available.

When this is happening it is slowing the computer down
and if you have more than one application running i.e
Word, it just freezes the mahine.

This all started only a few weeks ago - I have anti-virus
software but nothing is showing up.
