Problems changing the field type when importing data

When I try to import data into Access from an excel file I'm unable to change
the field types. When I try to select the appropriate field the column is
highlighted but the field name at the top of the window doesn't change. Is
there a setting I need to change within Access?
 
Hi Steve,

Access versions up to and including 2003 don't let you specify field
types when importing from Excel. This will change with Access 2007.
