Problems after installing IIS 5.0 from XP Pro SP1 CD

The title says it. The problem is defined as follows:

After installing, IIS works fine, untill the computer is shut down /
restarted. Then Windows is not able to boot and terminates with a bluescreen
halfway loading the OS. This is irrepairable.

However, when I remove IIS again in the same session, the computer boots
fine again, as if nothing ever happened.

I've had to reinstall my copy of Windows twice to find out installing IIS
from the CD caused the irrepairable crash. The third time I reinstalled, I
had installed and removed IIS to see what would happen. The computer would
restart just fine.

Other strange things that happened after IIS was installed, is that the
"Local Disk Manager" could not be accessed any more. "Acces denied" it said
in the controlconsole, and I couldn't see the hard- and CD drives. They all
were accessible through the Explorer though. It's just the Local Disk Manager
that could not be connected to.

Secondly, the Windows Installer Service could not be started any more either
(The Office 2000 installer terminated with an error every time when it was
started). "Access Denied". Only when I changed the service authentication to
the built in administrator account, I could start it. However, the setting is
supposed to be "Local System".

So it appears that the install of IIS causes me to prevent access under an
administrator account (!) to all kinds of services. And that is also what
stops Windows from booting properly if I were to shut down without removing
IIS.

What could be the problem? And more so, how can I fix this? There is no way
I can install and use IIS without losing my entire OS the next reboot.

Sorry, I don't have a solution to this problem, but am experiencing the
same symptoms. Have you found a fix as of yet? Thanks!
