Problem

My computer screwed up (I uninstalled something I shouldn't have) and I had
to have a tech reinstall a lot of stuff. Now I'm trying to reinstall
Microsoft Security Essentials and it tells me it can't reinstall because
it's already running but there is no green icon on the lower right, it's not
in Add/Remove Programs, when I do a search for it, it can't find it ,it's
not in Revo Uninstaller. When I go to the security center it tells me that
MSE is up to date and protecting my computer.
I have the same problem with Cloudmark DesktopOne except it's in Add/Remove
Programs but it won't uninstall it because it says that "the installation
source for this product is not available". It's in Revo Uninstaller but I
get the same message.
How can uninstall these two things.

Although it's no longer supported by Microsoft, you can download and install
the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility from here:

http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

Read this first for the notice at the beginning:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

I have used it in the past with success and no adverse side-effects. YMMV.

That worked for Cloudmark but I still can't get MSE uninstalled. Any ideas?

Don't toppost. It makes it harder for everyone else.

Just a guess, but could you install MSE on another computer and look
at the install log to see everyplace something gets changed. Then go
look at all thos places on your computer. Is the log detailed enough.

Also what does msconfig say about what you start at startup?

Ane what does cntl-alt-delete say about what is running and what
isn't? Each module starts one or more process.

Another point I should contribute to this topic is the fact that even if
you do manage to get your system to a state where it no-longer thinks that
MSSE is still installed and running, I found once that MSSE will NOT
re-install if a shortcut to it still exists in the Start Menu and the
shortcut is read-only.

It may sound like an obscure and outlandish point, but it's a simple thing
to overlook and will give you Installer Error message [0x80070643] every
time you try to re-install MSSE.

Personally, I would advise manually uninstalling MSSE from off your
system.....

Yeah, that's the same article link I posted yesterday. Either it didn't
work, or it hasn't been tried yet.

Sorry, I honestly hadn't sussed out your contributed links...

I thought I was in the minority to advise trying a manual uninstall, versus
the suggestion to use the "Windows Installer Cleanup Tool".

I tried to manually uninstall it and the key isn't in the registry.
Should I install another antivirus?
