Problem with Yahoo, SMTP & Outlook

I am using Windows XP and Outlook 2002

I want to use Outlook as the mail client for my Yahoo account, but am having problems getting this to work. I have set up the new account in Outlook in accordance with Microsoft & Yahoo instructions. However, when I press the "Test Account Settings" button, the final test (send test email message) fails. The Error message says "Unable to logon to the SMTP server. Please verify your SMTP server and the authentication settings in Outlook"

The first four "Test Account Settings" tests are all completed OK (establish network connection; find outgoing mail server (SMTP); find incoming mail server (POP3); log onto incoming mail server (POP3)). I have confirmed the POP3 option in my Yahoo mail account is selected. I have ensured that the "outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" box in Outlook is checked

I would appreciate any suggestions to solve this problem

Thanks

Thanks.

Did you actually PAY for a Yahoo account so you can get access to their SMTP
server? Yahoo's freebie accounts do NOT have access to their SMTP server.

I looked for this feature on Yahoo.co.uk, and can't find.

I only know of POP3 access (via Yahoo Mail Plus
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/plus/about/about-01.html#mailfrom)
and no SMTP at all.

Can you give post a URL address here which explains the setup for POP
and SMPT access on Yahoo, in particular the one for sign-up of free
service in exchange for adverts? With this info, it would be easier to
help.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

What happens when you try to actually send a message? The "test account"
button uses different code and doesn't give decent error messages (go
figure...).

Problem solved! Even though I still get the test error messages, I am able to send and receive actual messages OK. Thanks for your help Jeff.
