Problem with XP start up

pamw

I have Windows XP home edition on my desk-top computer with SP3 installled.
When I boot up everything appears to start as normal but when I click on my
username to start my desktop all that is displayed is the wall paper; no
icons appear and so I can't start any programmes or acces the start menu or
anything. This has only happened today and the onlt thing I have changed is
that I downloaded and installed the latest version of AVG Free anti virus
software last night - run a virus cheskc and there were no significant
threats detected. Can anyone help? PS - tried booting up in safe mode but
that didn't work either

Try asking in an XP discussion group. This is a .NET programming group.
Here's how to find an appropriate group.
As you appear to be using a web interface, start here to find an appropriate
group:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx

Click the + beside your language. then scroll down to Windows. In Windows,
open the category for Windows XP. Find a group there to post in.
