Problem with XP SP2

I recently installed XP with SP2 hoping to play Age of Empires 3 and other PC
games faster and more secure, but its not so, it cant even let you install
new DirectX versions like DirectX9.0c which also is needed by other games, i
format my disk again to change back to SP1 and the Directx9c installed fine
and other PC games run ok also, why is that? Problem with SP2 microsoft dont
know?

Hi ChrisAlviola,

Sp2 already includes DirectX 9.0c , thus you shouldn't be able to install
DirectX 9.0c on an Sp2 machine.

You can click start -> run and type DXDIAG and click ok.

That'll bring up the DirectX diagnostic window , which will show you the
version and also test if there are any problems with DirectX , please note
however that DirectX is not responsible for 100% of game operability , but
rather it's the middle man between your hardware and the games you play.

Try updating your display adapter drivers and also check your graphics card
for compatability with the game.

I'm pretty sure there is an Age of empires forum or newsgroup that'd give
you more details on any known issues.
